A dry red wine with lovely plum notes up front from the Malbec followed by the rich berry flavours of the Merlot and complimented by the lovely soft texture of Oak from the French barriques where the wine was matured for 15 months. Bottle ageing for a minimum of 12 months prior to release makes this wine ready for drinking now with your favourite meat dishes and cheeses but it will certainly benefit from further cellar ageing from now to at least the next 5 years.

2009 Lochiel Estate Merlot Malbec - $20 per bottle
2009 Lochiel Estate Reserve Merlot/Malbec/Syrah - $30 per bottle
An unusual combination but one that has worked well in this year. The pepper of the Syrah coupled with the rich plum and slight floral notes of the Malbec and a rich berry background flavour from the Merlot give this wine depth and style. Matured in French barriques for 15 months and then bottle aged for a minimum of 12 months prior to release, this is a wine to be enjoyed now or cellared for up to 5 years.
2010 Lochiel Estate Pinot Gris - $22 per bottle
A lovely light aromatic wine with pear and floral notes and a hint of citrus and quince in the palate. Great with white fish and summer salads as well a great wine to serve as an aperitif. Part of the wine was fermented in old Chardonnay barriques which gives it a little backbone. In addition , this is a dry wine with low residual sugar i.e. less than 2 g per litre which makes it great with food.
2010 Lochiel Estate Chardonnay - $25 per bottle
The Mendoza clone of Chardonnay seems to thrive in our particular area and gives us wonderfully rich and fruit filled wines which are hand crafted by our multi award winning winemaker. The 2010 is no exception with all the sweetness coming from the fruit esters as this wine is also dry with very low residual sugar. Some of the wine was taken through secondary fermentation (malo lactic) which adds to the buttery notes and almost 90% was fermented in French barriques giving us a little nuttiness. We are proud of our Chardonnay and believe this to be he best vintage so far.
2010 Lochiel Estate Rose` - $18 per bottle
Our Rose` is made from Merlot which gives it a unique and pronounced Strawberry nose and lovely crisp berry flavours. Again this is a dry style wine with residual sugar at approx 4 g per litre, which makes it very food friendly. Summer salads, cold poultry , light cheeses, fish of all descriptions and especially smoked Salmon are the perfect matches. However it is also a delightful aperitif in all seasons.
Lochiel Estate “The Laird” - $33 per bottle
The advantage of being a small vineyard and winery is that you can afford to try to do something different. “The Laird” is a great example. Take our ripest Malbec, ferment in the style of a vintage Port but fortify a little earlier to achieve a little sweetness and then age in American Oak barriques in our own solera topped up each year with the current vintage .The end result is a unique and lovely wine to savour after dinner with a cheeseboard, dark unsweetened chocolate or even Christmas cake or pudding. As the wine is aged in a solera, it can be enjoyed now but it will also benefit from cellaring (on it’s side as it is sealed with a cork) to achieve final mellowing as one would with a vintage Port.
Waiting in the wings…
